This plan is for a first visit, a winter break or anyone who wants a week of the same small bay every morning. Ong Lang sits about 6 km from Duong Dong town on the west coast. Travel guides describe it as less visited than the long beaches further south, with calm turquoise water and rocks that show at low tide. That last detail matters: you swim from the sandier stretches, and at low tide you may walk a few metres over stones to reach depth. Bring reef shoes.
We book two things for you: a car to Duong Dong market early one morning, and a 60-minute massage. Everything else is a suggestion you can ignore. Most guests settle into a pattern of a swim before 09:00, shade or a nap from 11:00 to 14:00 when sun and heat are strongest, and the sea again from about 16:00 until sunset.

Day by day
Day 1
Land at PQC, drive to Ong Lang
Your driver waits at arrivals with your name on a card. The airport is about 20 to 30 minutes from Duong Dong by car, and Ong Lang is about 6 km beyond the town, so plan on roughly 35 to 50 minutes door to door; that is our planning estimate, and evening traffic in town can add to it.
If you land before your property's check-in time, we ask the property for an early room in advance; when they cannot promise one, we tell you before you fly and the luggage waits at reception while you eat lunch.
Day 2
First full day: learn the bay
No bookings. Walk the shoreline in the morning and work out where the sand is deepest and where the rocks start. Swim before 09:00 while the water is flat. After lunch, stay in the shade; the island's beach-safety advice is to keep out of the midday sun from 11:00 to 14:00.
Sunset over the sea comes between about 17:40 and 18:30 depending on the month, and Ong Lang faces west, so you can watch it from the beach without moving.
Day 3
Market morning in Duong Dong
Duong Dong market between 06:30 and 08:30, when the boats' catch is on the tables
The one early start. Your driver collects you at 06:15 for Duong Dong market, which opens at 05:00; fresh fish comes in best between 06:00 and 09:00. You walk the wet section first, then the dried seafood and fish sauce stalls.
Breakfast is in town at a noodle shop of your choice; a bowl of banh canh costs about 40,000 to 60,000 VND. The car brings you back to Ong Lang by about 10:30, before the heat.
Day 4
A day with nothing in it
Read, swim, sleep. If you want to move, ask whether your property lends bicycles, or take a Grab into town; the published fare from Duong Dong to Ong Lang is about 80,000 VND each way.
Day 5
Massage afternoon
Your 60-minute massage is booked for 15:00 or 16:00, at your property's spa or a spa nearby. Published prices give a sense of the range: a classic 60-minute body massage in an island salon runs about 300,000 to 500,000 VND, and resort spas start from about 700,000 VND.
Go back to the beach afterwards for the last hour of light.
Day 6
Optional: Cua Can by kayak
Nothing booked. If you want a little exercise, the Cua Can river mouth is a short ride north. Kayaks there rent for about 80,000 to 100,000 VND per person per boat by a recent agency figure. Go in the morning, before the heat.
Day 7
Optional: a sunset in town
For one evening of noise, ride into Duong Dong for sunset at Dinh Cau, the shrine on the rocks at the river mouth, where the sun goes down at about 17:00 to 18:00 depending on season. The night market on Bach Dang street opens at 17:00 and is busiest from 19:00 to 21:00.
Day 8
Back to the airport
Check-out time is set by your property. Your driver collects you at a time set from your flight; we work back from a two-hour check-in margin for domestic flights unless your airline says otherwise.
Drive times marked as estimates are our planning figures built from published airport and town distances, not timed runs. Your driver adjusts for traffic and weather on the day.

Why Ong Lang for this week
Ong Lang gives you a west-facing bay without the strip development of the long beach south of town. It is close enough to Duong Dong for a market morning or a dinner out, about 80,000 VND by Grab, and far enough that the night market and the bars do not reach your room. Several resorts and bungalow properties sit along the bay; Chen Sea Resort, for example, lists 36 villas on the beach, and Mango Bay describes itself as an eco-friendly bungalow resort.
What you give up is shopping on foot. There is no large market inside the bay, so groceries, a pharmacy and the general hospital mean a ride into Duong Dong. We describe the trade-offs in more detail on the Ong Lang area page, and if you would rather have a longer, straighter beach, the same plan works from Cua Can.

Rooms and what they cost
Published 2026 figures put typical rooms in Ong Lang at about 450,000 to 1,500,000 VND a night, with private-pool villas far above that. Peak season, roughly December to February, runs 30 to 50 percent higher, and walk-in rates tend to be 20 to 30 percent above online prices. That is why we book ahead and why the same week in late April usually costs less than the same week in late December.
| Room type in Ong Lang | Typical market range per night | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Garden bungalow or simple room | about 450,000 – 800,000 VND | Fan or air conditioning, short walk to sand |
| Mid-range beach bungalow | about 800,000 – 1,500,000 VND | Breakfast varies by property |
| Pool villa in a resort | well above 1,500,000 VND | Priced per property; we quote by name |
These are typical market ranges from one published survey, split into bands by us for readability. They are not our selling prices. Your quote names the property and the room.

Who this plan is not for
- Travellers coming between May and October. The west coast gets bigger waves and murkier water then; see the rainy-season stay instead.
- Anyone who wants a long, straight, rock-free sandy beach. Ong Lang has rocks along parts of the shore.
- People who want to walk to restaurants, bars and shops every evening. Duong Dong or the long beach suit that better.
- Families who need a lifeguard on duty. Flag-marked zones with lifeguards at peak hours are reported for Bai Truong and Bai Sao, not for Ong Lang.

Common questions
Questions travellers ask most
Is Ong Lang good for swimming?
Yes in the dry season, when the water on the west coast is calm and clear. Parts of the shore are rocky, more so at low tide, so pick a property on a sandier stretch and pack reef shoes.
Can we do this plan in June?
We would not. From May to October the west coast is rougher. The rainy-season stay moves you to the calmer east coast for part of the week.
Will we need a scooter?
No. Grab works from Ong Lang, and the published fare to Duong Dong is about 80,000 VND. If you do want a scooter, you need a 1968-convention International Driving Permit plus your home motorcycle licence.
Can we swap the massage for something else?
Yes. A kayak morning at Cua Can, a cooking lesson at your property or a second market visit all fit the same slot. Tell us in the enquiry form.
