Hammock strung between palm trees above a quiet beach in north-west Phu Quoc

Stay plans · Ong Lang + Ganh Dau or Cua Can · 10–14 nights

Two weeks at island pace

Ten to fourteen nights split between Ong Lang and the quieter north, with one move in the middle and a weekly rhythm: a market day, a massage day, a walk, and long empty days in between.

A week in one bay is restful. Two weeks in the same bay can start to feel small. This plan splits the stay: the first week in Ong Lang, about 6 km from Duong Dong, where a market or a dinner in town is a short ride away; the second week further north, either in Cua Can with its 3 km beach and river mouth, or at Ganh Dau near the island's north-west tip, about 30 km from town.

The rhythm repeats each week. One morning has a booked outing, one afternoon has a massage, and the other days are left open. Long stays fail when every day has a programme, so we keep four booked items across the whole fortnight and give you a list of things to do on your own.

The fortnight, block by block

Day 1

Arrive and settle in Ong Lang

Private car from PQC airport to Ong Lang, roughly 35 to 50 minutes by our planning estimate. Unpack properly: you are here for a week. If your room has no kitchen, ask reception where the nearest minimart is on day one; we include the answer in your notes when the property tells us.

Day 2–3

Open days

Swim early, shade at midday, sea again after 16:00. Work out which café or beach bar you like for sunset, which falls between about 17:40 and 18:31 over the year.

Day 4

Week one booked morning: Duong Dong market

The wet market at first light

Car at 06:15 to Duong Dong market (open 05:00 to 19:00), back by 10:30. Buy pepper or fish sauce here if you plan to take some home; check your airline's liquid rules first.

Day 5–6

Open days, one massage

A 60-minute massage is booked on one of these afternoons. Classic body massages in island salons are published at about 300,000 to 500,000 VND; resort spas charge more.

Day 7–8

Move north

Check out late morning. Your driver takes you north past the Cua Can bridge, either to Cua Can or on to Ganh Dau. Ganh Dau is about 30 km from Duong Dong by road, and the bus takes 50 to 70 minutes on that run; from Ong Lang a private car is shorter, roughly 40 to 60 minutes by our estimate.

Day 9

Week two booked morning: the Ganh Dau headland and Rach Vem

Rach Vem's stilt houses before the midday heat

A driver-guide takes you along the north-west coast in the cool of the morning: Ganh Dau beach, an arc of about 500 m of coarse sand, and Rach Vem, a fishing village of about 160 households on stilts. Back by late morning.

Day 10–12

Open days, one fish sauce visit

One afternoon goes to a fish sauce producer. Phu Quoc fish sauce ferments for 12 to 15 months in hardwood barrels, and the island has more than 100 producers. The visit is short and works on a rainy afternoon.

Time for the things you put off: a second massage, a kayak at Cua Can at about 80,000 to 100,000 VND, a dinner in town. Pack on the last evening.

Ten nights instead

The 10-night version keeps seven nights in Ong Lang and three in the north, and drops the fish sauce visit. The order of the other blocks does not change.

Cua Can is the softer change: a longer beach, a river and a kayak hire, still within reach of town. Ganh Dau is the bigger change: fishing villages and a small market, but also a large resort strip at Bai Dai to the south with attractions that bring day traffic. We pick the property so that you face the village side, not the strip. Both are covered on their area pages: Cua Can and Vung Bau and Ganh Dau.

The optional boat morning

Some long-stay guests want one morning on the water. In the dry season we can add a small-group or private boat morning from An Thoi to the southern islands. Island trips there are running again after a suspension in July 2026, with stricter checks since then: registered vessels only, life jackets worn, and no overloading.

The routine on the day is simple. The crew gives a safety briefing before departure and hands out life jackets, which you wear on the boat. The captain and the port authorities decide whether the boat leaves; if they cancel for weather, we move the morning to another day of your stay or refund that line in full. Published market ranges for private wooden boats run about 2,500,000 to 4,000,000 VND a day, and group snorkel trips about 350,000 to 600,000 VND per person.

Who this plan is not for

  • Anyone who wants to stay in one room the whole time. Take the seven-night plan and add nights instead.
  • Travellers who need a hospital within ten minutes every day of the stay. In week two at Cua Can, the nearest hospitals are in Duong Dong.
  • People expecting nightlife in week two. Ganh Dau and Cua Can are quiet after dark.
  • May to October travellers. The north-west coast faces the south-west monsoon; read the rainy-season stay.

Common questions

Questions travellers ask most

Why not stay all 14 nights in one place?

You can. A move costs half a day and gives you a new beach, a new walk and a new place for dinner.

Do we need a car for two weeks?

No. Grab works on the west coast, and a car with driver costs about 1,500,000 to 2,000,000 VND for a full day by published figures if you want one for a day. A scooter is cheaper but needs the right licence.

Can we stay longer than 14 nights?

Yes. Visa-free entry to Phu Quoc covers up to 30 days for direct arrivals. Beyond two weeks we usually suggest a room with a kitchen and fewer inclusions.

Is the boat morning safe?

Island trips run with stricter checks since July 2026, including registered vessels and life jackets worn. The captain and the authorities cancel in bad weather, and we rebook or refund that line.
